Connection problems on wifi laptop

    I have a Acer laptop that connects with an indicated 100% connection to my home wifi WLAN. But I cant load any webpages using any browser, this is the same for any webpages. The firewall is switched off. I have had a look at a lot of settings but I cant find anything obvious, (although I dont have much of a clue really). Am on Vista if it makes any difference.
    Any ideas appreciated

    Do you use a router? If so take a look at its status lights - is the Internet light green?

    Yes I use a router and connection and web access is fine on all other devices connected to it.

    Can you open a command window (Start > type cmd and click on cmd.exe) and at the prompt type ping speedtest.net <Enter>

    Let us know whether you get four replies or it fails.

    Ok when I try this I get "Ping request could not find host speedtest.net"

    FYI I have 'lollipop' at bottom of screen. When I hover over it I get "Signal Strength: Excellent 54 Mbps" (This is there permanently)

    54mbps is the speed of your local network, not your internet connection. 54mbps is Wireless G. So basically you connect to the local network LAN bit can't get on the internet WAN.

    I don't have Vista installed but in Win 7 there is a Network&Sharing Center icon. You might be able to troubleshoot the problem.
