connection problems

hi,i have sbcyahoo as my isp.for the last 6 days or so,my connection will be lost,only for minutes,but its very annoying when your trying to download something or be web browsing to suddenly find page not found.thats not all though.every 15 minutes,my connection will go down to zero on all downloads,sometimes it recovers in time,sometimes it doesnt.i have of course contacted my isp and they checked my line and they said it was fine.i also did an online speed test with very good results.my dsl modem(2wire 1070b) has a built in router,but i disabled that long ago.could it be my modem?i wouldnt think a modem problem woul dcause so much ups and downs with my connection,though of course im no modem genuis.im very frustrated.could running too many programs cause this?anti-virus scan and spyware scan came up completly clean.i dont have a powerful machine,only 256 memory,my OS is windows xp sp2,can anyone help me?thanks in advance.
