Im running WinXP SP2 using Thunderbird and Mozilla, Firefox. When trying to log in to my email via thunderbird or website! I recieve an error message! The message states in thunderbird could not connect to server *****; the connection was refused. I recieve the same error message when trying to log into the webpage mail. Now I can go to work and check my mail from that machine. Does anybody have any other suggestions?

Who is the e-mail provider, your ISP, work, free web-based, Yahoo etc?

It is a local ISP. I can access my account from their webpage from anywhere else but my computer. I have even consulted with them and they are not blocking my access.

You said your using firefox, do you still have problems if you try and access the webmail using internet explorer.
I'm trying to narrow down if it is something related to firefox & thunderbird (both of which i use and love) or a general connection problem.

Yes I do have the same issue with IE. But if I was to go to somewhere like gmail, yahoo, hotmail. It allows me to check these accounts.

This would make me think maybe something with your hosts file concerning the webmail, and possibly a firewall issue with thunderbird. I don't think it would be a firewall issue with firefox as it seems per your previous posts you can use it to browse elsewhere. Do you have the windows firewall enabled? Do you have a third party firewall? Are you familiar with the windows hosts file? Have you ever had zone alarm installed and later uninstalled it? What kind of connection cable, dsl, dial-up and do you go through a router at all?

I am running Outpost firewall, but not the windows firewall. I have a DSL line. In my testings to try and narrow down the root cause I have turned off the firewall and still get this message. One thing I found out last night was that I am able to use the webmail version before I open Thunderbird. After Thunderbird opens it locks out that account(I think).

Which version of thunerbird? Have you installed any extensions? Are you sure you have thunderbird configured properly for your ISP. Proper login name, correct port settings, whether or not a secure connection is required, etc. One mistake i make quite frequently is not putting the @myisp.com after a username with a service that requires it for log-in. Once you try with thunderbird and then are locked out in webmail do you have to reboot to be able to get back in the webmail? Finally who is your ISP?

I am using Thunderbird 0.7. With no extra's or changes to the original installation. Yes I have the correct information for accessing my webmail. I am using the same information that OE is using. Usually I have to reboot to fix my issue. Last night I even tried a complete uninstall and reinstall of Thunderbird. Did not help. If there is any webpage or resource to help me better configure This program I would be greatly appreciative.

I got it figured out! Apparently I had the wrong port settings set. Sorry for any inconvenience.
