connections from computer to monitor

    I have a dell computer that has an hdmi port and a vga port.My monitor [Acer] has hdmi,dvi and vga.Unfortunatelty my hdmi port on the monitor is defective,So what I want to do is to go from hdmi on computer to dvi on monitor.Is this possible and if so,what components would I need?I already have an hdmi cable and a dvi cable?

    Don't know what all that is.it loolks like a graphics card and god knows what else.I think I just need an adapter.thanks anyway
