Hi, I am working on a fellow employees computer and there seems to be a BIG issuse with connectivity. No matter if the computer is wired or unwired it wont stay connected to the internet. About every 15 to 20 seconds the computer will loose connection. The computer is a dell inspiron 4150 laptop. P4 mobile 1.7GHz, 256MB ram, running XP home SP2. It is using a linksys 2.4GHz wirelesss G notebook adapter with speed booster. I did most of the things suggested in the : READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal thread. All but the online virus scanning due to the fact that I can't stay connected. Now I can get the computer to work online when i boot in to safe mode, just not in regular mode.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

I am going to take a wild shot in the dark because I had a similar problem.
Look at the network properties and you will see three tabs, General-Authentication-Advanced. Make sure that that on the Authenication tab you do not have IEEE authentication enabled. I had is checked one time and and every minute or so I would drop connection. Anyway it's worth a look.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunatley that didn't help. I was told that the computer worked before the wireless card was bought and installed, but now it doesn't. The card was uninstalled, and then reinstalled but it still isn't working. Any suggestions?

if possible you should try the wireless card on another laptop.

Will try that. The other thing is that even when the laptop is plugged into the wire, it keeps dropping the connection. I currently have the laptop plugged into a wire that I know works (have used it on my own laptop) and it still is dropping the connection every 15 to 20 seconds.

Ok well it isn't the wireless card, I am currently using it at the moment on my laptop. I am streaming audio and it hasn't dropped connection, so the card is good.

Ok, well I finaly figured out what was wrong with the laptop. My fellow employee has SBC DSL at home and they have SBC's 2 WIRE modem. They had installed the 2 wire software on the laptop and they were using a linksys wireless card. Well the 2 wire software was refreshing the connection every 15 to 20 seconds. That is why they couldn't stay connected.

    Thanks for all the help
