    Dear Software Geeks,

Malware is gone. Now the connectivity reports connection, but there is still no access. Your Malware crew reported from the logs that the computer claimed to be connected.

Lenovo Win 7 Home Premie, SP1, 64 bit,
    Avast,

Please let me know if I can provide any more information...thanks in advance...

How do you connect to the internet?

I had a problem with a computer I was working on today that had no access. We tirned off the dsl modem for 3 minutes, turned it back on and had access.

    Thank you Plodr,

The desktop uses a wifi adapter (not built in) to which it connects (...) to the router. There are two routers (House & renter) in close proximity. However, the wifi bandwidth is public (unencrypted) (hey, we're in the boonies) and works fine. I walk around the building with my lenovo vista laptop from unit to unit without a hitch (except it's vista;)).

On the "house" win7 unit, the connection dialogue at the wifi icon shows both resident routers, however, our house router indicated an exclamation point such as appears in the Devices dialogue box.

The renter router has no warning sign and indicates full and happy connection.

An issue has been "too many cooks" due to UAC foul-up, but I just got a swift, patient, and much appreciated lesson in that from Chaslang which may reduce turmoil in the future.

Added: I also connected the tower to the direct dsl and the same issue, full connectivity indicated, no connection at any browser (ie,moz')
Anything else I can provide? Thank you in advance for your kind attention.

You lost me on the two routers issue. A dsl modem is also a router so in essence you are dealing with 3 routers. The two routers have to be in bridge mode otherwise everything fights over handling DHCP and nothing gets on the internet.

If you simply unplugged one computer and plugged in a different computer, that won't work. The modem/router has a memory and expects to see a certain MAC address of the computer or router that was attached to it. Unless you turn off the dsl modem, the only computer that has internet access is the one originally connected to it.

Remove the desktop from the dsl modem/router, connect the router to the modem and put back the wifi adapter back into the desktop. Next open Device Manager and be sure the wifi adapter is properly loaded. You don't want to see a yellow ! or a red X. If you do, you might to reload the driver.

You see two connections, house and renter. One has an !. My default wifi connection has that also on the two Win 7 netbooks I looked at. I can still connect to the internet. If the ! is at the wifi you normally connect to, it probably means you are connected and it is unencrypted. Try right clicking the connection, select disconnect. Then try connecting again.

    Hello again Plodr,

I've searched the forum about installing drivers for the network adapters, but I'm wondering if all of them need to be uninstalled. In another thread dlb recommends installing another driver after uninstalling all drivers. I have the list of installed network adapters in a jpg if it would help, I'll post it.

I installed the realtek rtl8188...adapter today, same story, excellent connectivity indicated, no access.

any advice you can give me would be appreciated...thanks in advance...

Hi Falconattack! We've met here before...thanks for looking in.

    the desktop is a lenovo win 7 sp1 64 bit 6g ram,avast.

    malware scanned clean.

We have two routers, house (unencrypted) and renter (encrypted). They are bridged and work fine on most other machines. Our house router also serves a dsl connection to another desktop which connects fine.

Unit shows an exclamation point on the task tray wifi icon for the house router but indicates full connection to the encrypted router (renter).

By all indications there is full connectivity but there is no connection for the browsers (ie, moz).

The long list of adapters was from unknown devices (mg) and lists many more than the windows devices dialogue which only shows the two realtek and the cisco. I just installed the realtek adapter yesterday to see but no help...Thanks and Peace...

I'll post these jpgs of the various dialogue boxes. Please let me know if there is any more info I may provide!! Peace!

Would someone kindly sort out these adapters?

I'm trying to get this issue resolved before the reinstall. Anyone have any ideas about these hidden adapters?

Any more info I can provide? Thanks!!

    Hello and thanks,

I installed the netgear software and adapter just prior to the post to see if perhaps the cisco adapter was funky, but to the same non-effect...

It showed the same full connection as the netgear without actual connection...

I'm wondering what all these other adapters are the unknown devices shows...could that be the source of the problem?

    Thanks again!!

Unknown devices shows mystery wifi adapters??

Can anyone take a look at the attachments and sort out what wifi adapters might be conflicting? Or even why there are so many that don't display in windows? Current adapter is enabled as posted...thanks...
