I just got Medal of Honor- Pacific and it will not run becasue of my video card. I have a nVidia MX440 128mb.. and it only compatible with like ten cards.. it lists some ati & some nVidia.. but not mine...what kinda bull marlarky is that? Are the software writers in bed with the hardware people now? What a scam.
Gone are the days of minium requirements, eh?

    "System Requirements
    • System: 1.5 Ghz Intel Pentium IV or AMD Athlon processor or equivalent
    • RAM:512 MB RAM
    • Video Memory: 64 MB VRAM
    • Hard Drive Space: 3000 MB "

Your card should run the game fine unless your trying to use dx9 only features which your subpar video card doesnt support. You cant complain about a video card that is 6years~ old and counting... Or should I say you cant complain about a brand new released game using todays technology.

      "Recommended System Requirements
      • System: 2.0+ GHz Intel Pentium IV or AMD Athlon processor or equivalent
      • RAM: 512 MB RAM
      • Video Memory: 128 MB VRAM
      • Hard Drive Space: 3000 MB
      • Other: Windows XP or Windows 2000; 3D video card which fully supports DirectX 9.0"

AH! so we can blame MS for the new DirectX9 ...

I meet the "requirements".. I even updated DX, and video drivers.. still no joy.
They sell the 5200 for $79... what a price to play a game..lol

Oh well guess I'll need it for the future use.

a 5200 for the future? guess again. i wouldn't look at anything lower than Ati's 9700 pro or nvidia's equilevent (i believe its the 5900 series) for the gaming future. and if you get an nvidia FX series, forget about playing HL2...seems that valve inserted some coding that disables some of the features on the FX...better go with a non-FX series or an ATI card. me? i'm currently running a 9200, which is similiar to the 5200, but am selling it soon for either a 6600 GT or a 6800.

the video card you have now and the 5200 is the same card; just one has dx9 in it and a "BIT" more advanced..and not more then a "bit".

Nvidia mx 200/400, 5200, 5600, 6200 = word pad use and maybe a dvd. ATI counter part are the 9000, 9100, 9200, x200. Price range is 100-200$ (200$ being that they put 256mb on crappy cards and make dumb buyers think its good because they see "256mb")

Nvidia 5900, 6600 = mid range use 5900 has had its day already... ATI counter part is the x600, and the 9600/9700/9800. Price range starts at 150$-250$

Nvidia 6800, and ati's x800 = top of the line and will be for 3-5more months.
    Price range starts at 300-500$

after Voodoo went away, I tried ATI and never liked them.. the pictures on the box were never like what I got any pc I ran...nVidia looked to be the next 'big' thing.. and they always performed well for me.

If your buying video cards for the pictures on the box then you need someone that knows about cards to be helping you pick them out... and for every ATI card theres an NVidia counter part and viceversa; dont you think it would be futile if one company was better then the other by a clear margin? Everycard has a distant brother from the other company that ussaly performs identical. Oh and 3dFX was purchased by Nvidia.

    foogoo Major "foogoo" Geek

that was a bit tongue & cheek.... I just never got "performance" out of an ati card.. maybe I didn't know 'how to tweak them'. And for a while I believe Nvidia was 'better' than ATI... for a small while, ATI was the 'only' game in town and got lazy (my take entirely)

lol... conspiracy? ya thats it lol no your just going to have to realize that games their making now are going to require better PC's to run them. I wouldnt call it conspiracy...

actually the underlying thought was "are game programmers going to drive the hardware business?" ie the next killer "app". Besides *all* of us who like to like to upgrade every month.. who'll get PCI express? How many SATA people are out there? Not many PCs I've encountered.. I'll say that. Unfortunately I shop with my wallet, not my heart (lol).. but my latest PC does have SATA, and w few bells & whistles.

If you look up Steam's survey they have conducted I have a very 'average' system.. (the nVidia mx series cards are very popular) 2.5 GHZ, bla bla bla..

I mean with all the consoles out there how do PC game makers think they can drive the hardware biz? This is where I differ with the "your just going to have to realize that games their making now are going to require better PC's " Because I am sure these games will come out on Xbox eventually (if not already) & they are not getting any newer in hardware.. its a 700MGHZ, or something like that.. so these games can run on *less*

Like I said the whole post was just to pose a question.. not start a flame war.

The reason you see Mx 400/200/440 so popular is because people are very ignorant IMO; they go to dell and see a pc thats 2.8ghz 512mb ram 160gb hard drive for 500$ and theyre like omg ! WOW! so fast so much space! Here johnny go play CS//WoW/EQ2/HL2/whatever on this! then the kid gets a 5200rpm hard drive with onboard graphics card and a celeron running on its last leg. Saddest part of all is that they whine the game doesnt live to what they expected with all that crappy lag and errors during game play.

SATA isnt exactly a better technology so to say then IDE but its alot better in space saving/airlow inside the case; thats why i think theyre trying to push it.

Anyways i think the hardware buisness always drives the software; rotation for the past ...10 or so years for video card updates has been on a 6month turn around; starts by releasing a new high end tech; 6months later comes the video cards that become fillers for that technology; 6 months later a new high end tech comes out.

A good example of this is 3dmark01/03/05. When 3dmark01 was out top of the line was the ti4400/4600 and the upcoming Geforce 3's...but once people got super high scores in 3dmark01 they introduced 3dmark03 which made that "20,000points" look like 3,000 points in the new benchmark. Finnally now we have 3dmark05 in which 15,000points in '03 means 4500points in '05

Just because he doesn't see it your way doesnt make him "retarded"; i think your being ignorant yourself to claim your own philosophy god like vs his...

Like he said (if you paid attention) his actuall post refered to the idea of "are game programmers going to drive the hardware business?" I think he can support this idea vaguely even just by stating the fact that new games like World of Warcraft, EverQuest 2, Halife-life 2, Counter Strike: Source, LOTR : The Battle for Middle-earth, Rome: Total War, Starwars Battlefront, Need For Speed Underground 2, Guild Wars, Doom 3, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 etc. require high end systems to ENJOY it to its full potential. Games and hardware share a linked enviroment in which one pushes the other; but hardware is really the last call when it comes to ushering in new high end games to produce more high end hardware.

Agencies that use super computers and extremly high end graphical industrial design dont go to bestbuy and buy an Alienware with dual 6800Ultras; they have their own equipment and hardware specifically designed for such high end enviroments.

Thanks Omega.. you can lead some people to water but you cant make them THINK!!

So people would buy PCI express to run Excel?? LOL
NewsFlash .. my oldest 166 can run Excel.
I know a Hospital here in town that STILL runs Win98.

I said this was not a flame war and then POOF..a fire breaks out... I guess I should of know better than ask for [some] peoples thoughts. Fourms are for the adult discussion of a topic.. name calling is reserved for the Jr High restrooms.

I play *most* of my games on PC SW:battlefront, CounterStrike, Unreal Tour., plenty .. and I have a GBA,PS1, dreamcast, & Xbox.. but I am a PC gamer first.

I appreciate all who've added a THOUGHT to this thread...
