hello, i have looked through other threads to find a solution, but to no avail, here is my problem. i have a linksys WRT54G v4 router. I am currently at work, small business out of a home. My boss has a Dell 8600 inspiron with centrino. I bring my laptop with a wireless G card, and his kids computer downstairs has a wireless G usb adaptor. the odd thing is that his centrino laptop never drops connection, however my laptop and his kid's computer perpetually drop connection every few minutes randomly. sometimes it will be every few minutes, sometimes it wont happen for an hour.. I know it has to be a setting somewhere becasuse his Dell laptop works fine. I have updated the router's firmware and all the other firmware for the other computers. I have computer knowledge, but not much at networking; however i can set up a basic network. I called linksys, but they weren't very helpful.

    Please help me..
    Thank you
    Rob

This definately could be environmental- eletronics, cell phones etc. causing problems.

Other than that, the most likely culpret, assuming the adaptors are both usb, would be power-management on the USB hub-

Go to start, run, type "devmgmt.msc" (no quotes), hit the plus beside universal serial bus controllers, and for each "root hub" listed, doubleclick on it, go to powermanagement, and uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device..." Bear in mind, this may have a slight to moderate affect on laptop battery life if you have alot of usb stuff attached and no fixed power supply.

Ghosted adaptors/unknown devices are also a possibility: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315539/en-us

These are the sorts of things that have solved this type of issue for me in the past, but I'm not a wireless guru, so I'm sure there are other possibilities.

edit: Just realized only the kids laptop uses usb, but I would still check power management settings there, at least...

Hi there this is probaby not helping but I have a dell inpiron 8600 centrino laptop and a linksys WAG54g router. I came on this forum to try and find some help as I too keep dropping my connection with an error message 'limited or no connectivity available' even though the signal strength is excellent. Not sue if this is linked to your problem, apologises if it is not.

    thanks

Also, gecks, thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, that didnt work either. I still cant figure out why the centrino laptop holds connection and the others dont. It has to be a setting somewhere. I'm open to any suggestions.

    Thank you for your help

I have a similar problem with a Linksys WRT54G and a brand new Dell laptop, and am also looking for a solution.

A couple things come to mind re: your situation:

    - it is the boss's laptop that works well, and I suspect that he has the newest machine. Perhaps it is just newer/better/more compatible hardware on his end.

    - have you tried using your PC in your boss's office? It is possible that there is some other device near your PC (or between the router and your PC) that intermittently interferes with the signal.
