constant problems

I posted this in the Malware Removal forum along with my logs. I was told I don't have a malware problem and I should post in the Software forum, so here it is:

I'm running Windows XP SP3. I use Google Chrome and Google as a home page. I constantly have problems and have no idea where they come from. AND, they're not always the same problem. I get the blue screen of death for no reason. Google crashes frequently. Outlook crashes, MS Word crashes. I frequently get: "Google (or Microsoft, or Outlook, etc), has encountered a problem and needs to close". Two minutes ago, Google encountered a problem due to Adobe Shockwave Flash crashing (happens often). Even if I use IE and MSN as a home page, I still get crashes. Yesterday, I turned on the computer and as soon as it got to my desktop, I got: "MS encountered a generic Win32 problem and needs to close". Some days are worse than others, but I usually have at least 1 - 2 issues per day. After reaching "my limit" a few weeks ago, I decided to reformat my hard drive and do a clean install of Windows, all updates, MS Office 2007, Adobe, Java, etc. I still have these issues!

All my software updates and drivers are kept current. My antivirus is updated daily. The registry is clean. Cookies and temp files are cleaned. I defrag weekly. Since there isn't any pattern or common denominator to my problems, I'm stumped.

I followed all your malware removal instructions to the letter and still have problems. A few problems were found on a backup (D) drive, but none on my C drive. I've scanned my computer with AVG, Trend Micro, Norton, Bit Defender and they didn't find anything. The only problem I had with your instructions was with RootRepeal. As soon as I click the "scan" button, the computer reboots. I reinstalled it. Tried it several times and the same thing happens. I checked for Rootkits with BitDefender and it found nothing.

Please let me know what to try next. :( Thank you!

    Hi

When you get a BSOD error as they seem to happen alot can you post the full error message and code as it will help narrow down the cause?

If you start in Safe Mode (F8 at boot and can choose safe mode with netowrking as you can get internet connection in that mode) and see if it doesnt cause you issues, sadly it looks bad due to basic GFX drivers being used but can give us alot of info if all is well in Safe Mode.

What security applications do you have installed, please name them all?

    Hi,

Sorry for the delay in responding, but I was away for the weekend.

As far as the BSOD, when it appears, it's there for a millisecond, disappears, then the computer reboots. The tough part is that these are all intermittent problems. Some days they're relentless; other days they happen just 2 - 3 times. They're also quite varied. If I started in Safe mode and nothing happened, that could just be a coincidence. Sometimes errors occurred on startup before getting to my desktop. I think they were mdmp related.

In my Office Ultimate 2007, if I click on "Office Diagnostics", it shows no problems at all. They next time I turn on my computer / Office, I get a "Microsoft Error Reporting" message that says: " Some unexpected errors have happened to software you recently used. You were not asked to send these error reports at the time they occurred." Then it goes and asks me to submit the error report now. This pretty much will happen every time I run the Office Diagnostic. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it a few times and still get those messages.

I use AVG and Bitdefender for security and a firewall in my Linksys router. Definitions are updated daily.

    Thanks!

After installing / running all the programs required in the Malware forum, since no malware was detected, I was then instructed to remove the tools that were installed. Then I rebooted and I got the "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" error message saying it encountered a problem and has to close. The only program running is AVG. this is not the first time I got this message right after turning on the computer.

The details of the message are:
Generic Host Process for Win32 Services
    Error signature
    szAppName : svchost.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.5512
    szModName : CNQL2404.dll szModVer : 1.0.4.0 offset : 000279da

    Error Report Contents
    …\WERb30f.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp
    …\WERb30f.dir00\appcompat.txt

I've attached the files if that would be of any value?

    Thank you.
