Continual Unscheduled disc check Win XP

Toshiba P10 laptop Win XP updated. Have external 1Tb hard drive. Have been getting occasional BSOD's. Has now started wanting do do a disc check on the USB drive every time I boot. Let it run through. NO faults. Next boot the same. Now it wants to check Drive C as well. Ran through that no problems.
Any ideas on what is going on?

chkdsk can be suppressed on startup.
Open regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
On the right side look for (or create the dword valuehttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png): AutoChkTimeOut
Double Click and set to 0 (zero) to disable.

 

That Dword causes immediate chkdsk without asking. Refer to this link
