Control Panel Sound Related Error Message Problem

Hello,

I am having a problem where every time I open Control Panel, I get the following error message,

"To enable advanced sound effect for gaming, please make sure the setting of Hardware Acceleration is "full". The directory is as below: Control Panel -> Multimedia(Win98)/Sound & Multimedia(Win200/ME)/Sound & Audio Device (Win XP) -> Audio -> Playback/Advance... -> Performance -> Hardware Acceleration."
That is word for word too, it says "Win200", not "Win2000". This pops up from 3 to 6 times when I open Control Panel, and also a couple more times if I click on one of the icons in my Control Panel called "Sound Effect Manager" which opens up a window titled "AC97 Audio Configuration"

Has anyone heard of this problem before? Can anyone help?

 

You can try a couple of things: uninstall your sound drivers, reboot, and reinstall the sound drivers; or check your msconfig for a sound device manager program and uncheck it from startup. I have one called "SOUNDMAN" in my startup; disabling it in the list doesn't affect my sound at all. The SOUNDMAN program basically puts several audio settings in one place (volume, sound recorder, multimedia settings, etc). You could also try running Dial-A-Fix.
