control panel

this is just a simple question... I was wondering if it is normal for th econtrol panel to take 3-5 seconds to load up, sometimes itll just stay blank then all the icons appear at once, but sometimes it shows a flash light and they load up slowly.

 

What are your system specs?

 

3.0 ghz p4 prescott HT and 1 gig of ram, I also upgraced my card to the x800 xl

 

Well dang. I have an AMD 64 3000+, 1 GB RAM, and an X800XL. From the time I click Control Panel to the time all the icons are loaded is literally about one second. What other programs do you have running in the background and what programs run at startup? Hint: Look in the system tray.

Also, small things eat up your RAM. For instance by default iTunes loads on system start. Even if you disable that, iPod helper and some other Apple programs run at startup and continue running unless you close them our or turn them off. Collectively, several of these things could slow down your machine a tad. Also, you may have spyware which could slow it down, or... Windows could just be sucking ass. It is known to do that

 

NIS, NAV, NAS, ati control panel, realtek sound manager.

 

Norton stuff eats up so many system resources. Disable those and stop them running and try and see if that helps. Check and see what your idle CPU and memory load is (CTRL+ALT+DEL)

You can also hit C+A+D and look at the Processes tab to see what is using the most memory.

 

my cpu is at 0-2% at all times : /
