i recently bought a "venom xbox controller adaptor for windows",when i tried to install the floppy that came with it,a box appeared that said, the software hadn't been verified for windows compatabilaty,if i continued with the install it could cause windows to crash,is there anything i can do to install this safely(i'm running windows xp)

It is safe, just install it.

All that box means is the guy that made the driver didn't give microsoft a bunch of money to check it and see if it works with windows XP. Which is quite common amongst small companies, they simply don't have the money to pay MS to approve their drivers just to make that little warning window go away. It's not something you need to worry about at all.
