There are tons of great $hareware programs out there that can accomplish this task and more. However you might try the freeware media converter below first; just so you can get better accustomed to using this type of utility.

Tip: The Miksoft site section where the download links are is a tad confusing because the links to download are clustered around advertising links. When you get to that site make sure that you click on either Server 1 (v.1.0) or Server 2 (v.1.0) if you're using Windows. [Not Server 1 (v.1.0) for Linux].

You might like using this: Mp3 TAG Remover! which is a freeware mp3 "tag removal" utility. It allows you to remove ID3, ID2 and ID1 tags from mp3s and removes lyrics tags from mp3s. The program supports drag and drop operations and can also process multiple files.

 

The reason I posted is that I am trying to use a video editor to edit files, but the software won't work unless the files are converted.

 

Mp3 is a format for compressing audio files and the mpeg format is a container for both audio and video files. You can't convert one to the other. You can extract or separate the audio stream from the video file in a process called demuxing.

I am using Avid to attempt to edit videos. But they just wont appear on the time frame.

 

What formats does Avid support?

 

How can I find that? The files that won't open are mpg.

 

The built in-conversion wizard should convert mpeg to AVI, but the converter stays indefinitely for an only 572 kb file. When I go to the timeline with an unconverted mpg file only the audio track appears.

 

There should be something in the help files. I found no answers on their site.

Does it open avi files? If so try AllToAvi. It will convert those mpeg files to avi format.
