    Hey guys,

I've got a client's 30-second public service announcement on a DVD that I need to turn into a movie file (avi, mov, mpeg, or whatever) so it can be downloaded from their website.

My question is, what do I need to do to convert what's on the DVD to a file? Is it a fairly stupid-proof process, and could someone point me in the right direction? When I pop the DVD in, it looks like the files on it are BUP, IFO, and VOB which mean nothing to me. =\

I'd like to do this on my Mac at work (OSX) but if anyone has an easy PC solution, that'll do nicely as well.

You need a DVD encoder, the same kind of thing you would use to encode mp3s from CDs. I use ImToo DVD Ripper. Maybe you can find a freeware of shareware program at download.com.

This is another grey area. An answer could be presented, but someone who wishes to rip a rented dvd could also find this answer.

All I will say is google.
