convert .avi file

Just got a Memorex DVD burner and would like to create a DVD I can play on my player attached to my television. I know I have to convert the .avi file to a different format but I cannot figure out how to do it, or what file format is needed. My recorder came with Nero 6.

 

You might try using AVI2DVD or DivXtoDVD to convert your .avi's to ISO format, then burning the ISO with nero. You may also want to investigate ImgBurn to burn your ISOs.

 

Nero six has evrything you could ever want,its what I use with my DVD burner,first download all the updates from nero,you do need these they are huge updates that totally transform the program and add huge functionality

After the updates have been installed,open Nero express select make a DVD that will play on all DVD players,next open an avi file,the file will be displayed,keep going next if you cant be bothered learning how to use the program just yet,until you get to the final Burn options here you can either do a direct copy the file which will be stream burned or burn the file to the harddrive first,I always burn to the harddrive,if anything happens to stop the burn you will have to start all over again and where burning a disk is concerned alot of the time something will happen once coverted and burned to harddrive,the burn will start,if at any point now the burn fails you can always try to burn the DVD file from the harddrive again without having to start the conversion process over again,coverting a one hour AVI file to DVD can easily take over an hour on a good computer,its not something you wanna do twice

 

Just found out the edition of Nero 6 that came with the burner isn't complete - figures! In order to get the function to convert the files, I have to purchase the complete edition.

 

Did you not get nero 6 OEM edition thats what they give out with all burners, does it have its own disk
