Convert .avi files....

    I have several .avi video files that I'd like to convert to DVD format so I can burn 'em to DVD and watch them on a home DVD player. I've done some research but haven't found much. Can somebody recommend a free util that will convert my .avi's to standard DVD format? Simplicity here is the main idea. Thanx!

    BTW- what is std. DVD format anyway? MPEG2? MPEG3? MPEG4????

    I use zamzar.com. It's all on-line and free. I saw it here on MG so I suppose it's safe too.
