#2 son has just purchased a 80 gig iPod Classic.

What software will convert CD's to *mp3 preferably and then load to Ipod?

    Are intermediate steps required?

MEDA CD Ripper indicates that you can rip from CD direct to iPod but we can't get it to work.

I'm not an iPod guy or an iTunes guy, but I found these here at Major Geeks:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/IPOD-TOOLS/Multimedia-IPOD-tools/iPod-Audio-Converter.shtml (this may be adware supported)
I only listed freeware, and the few I found weren't easy to find. AVS software has a popular app for CD>iPod but it isn't free http://www.avs4you.com/avs-audio-cd-to-ipod.aspx
    Good luck Bazza!

Thanks dlb. We loaded iTunes and ripped over 800 songs last night, which is why I am late on today and a bit confused. :)

Thanks for your links. I'll check out what format the songs were loaded in. I assume it is iPod proprietary format (Acc?). I was after something that would copy across in MP3 format as it is universal.

When I wake up properly, we'll have another go. :-D

    Hey bazza...

I may be missing the point here or just clueless, but why don't you just change your itunes settings for importing CDs to use mp3 encoding.

If you are importing from a CD it shouldn't be a problem.

Or are you talking about CDs that were burned using ipod's coding?

    Laura R,

That's what we want (I think ;) ) , but how do we do it?

We must have missed that setting in #2 sons' eagerness to get some CD's onto his new toy. :-D

I think what you want is

Edit >Preferences > Advanced Tab > Importing> Change your 'Import Using' Setting
