I made a slide show with Microsoft PhotoStory 3 to upload to CNN for their Autism special they are putting on t.v. tomorrow....they watched the slide show from a hosting site and are interested in showing the video, but can't upload it....they asked me if I could convert the file to something other than windows media file.....Can someone tell me how to do this, please????
    Thank you so very much.

(If you're interested, currently my slide show can be viewed at

Thank you. I downloaded both of the programs at the links you gave me and didn't have any luck.....it didn't seem to matter what i tried converting it to, the one said "failed" and the other said "unsupported"

CNN said .mov and .avi works best.....I googled my problem and came up with some wondershare program, but once i added my file to it, it said I had to buy the program or it would limit my file to only three minutes....

    Any other ideas???

Try SUPER. It converts just about any media format to any other format, and it's 100% free. DVDFlick is for converting files into DVDs, so that probably isn't what you need. What format is the slide show in now? This may make a difference. If DVDFlick reported that the format was unsupported, then it may be fairly obscure, because DVDFlick has support for just about everything. Another good, free program is Dr. Divx. It will convert most formats to the DivX codec standard.

    Hello TEAM

I downloaded your slideshow and made a DVD of it. This comes out rather larger (about 600MB) do you have an address to upload it to ?

An AVI file would come out at 2.2 GB, full TV quality.

    Looks good by the way.

Can't see why CNN can't do this for themselves.

Update, I've got the size down to just over 400Mb for an NTSC .mpg file, it's cooking at the moment.

TEAM, what version of windows do you have?
You should be able to use a microsoft tool for this, just choose the appropriate outputs.
I can see how to convert in
    Windows DVD maker
    Windows Photo Gallery
    Windows Movie Maker

I am running windows XP sp2
I tried using the movie maker and ended up with 2113MB!!!!! and the music skipped and pictures were stretched.....but I do think it has something to do with keeping with microsoft as you are suggesting.....
THANK YOU SOO SOOO SOOOO MUCH for converting my file.....To give you an address to upload it to.....I will have to figure out how to pm or e-mail you that...i know you can do that through here...i will have a look at instructions and give it a try.....it has to be done through my account...but if you are willing, I would REALLY appreciate it......

2113MB = 2GB, which is about what I calculated an AVI file to be. I didn't actually make one, I made DVD files.

I used Windows DVD maker to convert and burn your file to DVD format (.vob). the DVD plays well in a Hitachi domestic player. This is of course European DVD format.

I currently have the .vob file cooking in Ulead Media Studio Pro to convert to standard .mpg format, this time NTSC,

These files are still large, too large for Email directly, but pm me a landline no and or email address for the next step.

i converted it to an avi file (@ 2 gb), and it looks good, i'll upload this one and send you the link... it would help to have an addy, so i don't have to share it with everyone. but whatever. i'll check in a few. - sos

I should send sosaman the same PM Email you sent me. The AVI file is what they asked for and will already be in American format. CNN may not use the soundtrack for copyright reasons.

Sos - you have 2G of spare webspace?

Any probls, or if Lila wants the .mpgs and I will upload direct to CNN as suggested.

stu, xdrive.com, or msn's "live skydrive", are all free with acct.
skydrive crashed on me 2 times, and it might take forever to upload to xdrive. anyway, i need to change my majorgeeks pm settings. - sos

this is a link for a .mov file, see if it works decently?? i accidently got disconnected earlier on my upload of the .avi file (user fault), but regardless it wouldn't be ready until early am. i'm uploading the .avi file again. - sos

http://media-convert.com/convert/?xid=12-ebacbdzi <-- check the quality (of video, and audio), as i haven't yet.

as i mentioned, i'm still trying to upload the .avi version. - sos

Studiot....I downloaded the .mov you did.....the writing was clear and the music was clear, but the pictures were lacking a bit in quality from the conversion, but still certainly visable....so I uploaded it directly to the CNN site, but found out this morning it failed also.

It is absolutely amazing to me how much you have been helping me. It sure renews my faith in humanity that someone part way across the world is so willing to help, especially to this extent!! Since my children were diagnosed with autism, I have met a whole new type of persons....the therapists that come through my revolving door are so willing to help...go beyond the call of duty and they genuinely love my kids and their job....but the people outside the autism community don't seem so friendly anymore.....so I thank you all from the bottom of my heart !!!!

Happy to take a bow, but Sosaman deserves the credit for the .mov file.

I am uploading the NTSC mpeg file to CNN as I post this.
Please note that .mov files are apple files and often don't play well on a pc.
Also the mpeg files I made are optimised for television, not computers. I don't know if you have ever used the direct to telly output on a digital camera but the result is quite different form the picture on a computer screen.
This is something to take into account when edting video.

well, i expected to wake up this morning and see that my upload was finished, however it still says 5 hours to go!! :( i don't know if it's because of my dsl limits, or what? hopefully, stu gets the upload completed. when was your cut off time? - sos

oh, I did get that wrong....the part about the .mov file should have been directed to Sosaman.....

My thank you, though, to both of you !!!!!

And no, StudioT, I didn't know anything about the difference between computer screen and t.v. or anything else you just told me, lol....it's good to know, thank you.
Honestly, I'm pretty good at picking things up with word processors and autocad and other software, but this more technical stuff, I am learning as I go......and I love working this photoStory 3...here's a short fun one I did...

Hi Sos...no worries....again, I appreciate what you've done....today is the special, it's airing right now, but it goes all day, so I'm hoping they will still take them....

this part confuses me. do you have a direct link to submit it to? or did you try and send the d/l to them via email? all i have is an email addy (Lila xxx@xxx.com). - sos

edit - n/m studiot gave me the link. - sos

Thank you so very much, Studiot and Sosaman!!!
Well, National Autism day is near it's end, and I didn't get our slide show in that I know of, but it is possible that Lila was able to retrieve something from you...I haven't heard yet.... but I did post a link elsewhere and sent it to the Minister of Education.....and I drew a response from her this afternoon.....I've invited her to see a therapy session with my son....I will be speaking with someone from her office at some point next week....so the slide show may not have gone where I wanted it to go, but it may have done some good anyway!!! So I thank you very much from all of us,
    Tammy & Armond,
    Violet, Phillip and Maryanne!!!!

I believe everyones uploads failed (yours, studiots, mine). I don't know what was up with their site. I had uploaded my 2 gbyte (or tried, and it failed as well), at xdrive.com. Anyway, I'm glad it somewhat worked out for you. - sos
