    Hi all,
New poster here. A friend has A LOT of .pages files created on his MAC that he would like to share with me (a year's worth of high school physics curriculum; we're teaching together next fall). Rather than asking him to export every single one to a format compatible with Word 2007, I'd like to be able to do the converting for him. So, the question is...

Is there any way to convert .pages files so that they are compatible with Word 2007 without going back and exporting the original documents from iworks?

Hello Philodendron, and Welcome to Major Geeks

I have found an application here:

    http://sourceforge.net/project/screenshots.php?group_id=226814

But it seems that it does not keep the formatting. Also, from what I heard, Open Office does not seem to work, nor does Adobe Acrobat. Is there any means in which you can get access to a mac to do these converting instead of getting him to do it?

    Note: Still looking...

Thanks for the lead, Elder_Usr. I just got an update from my colleague; the other reason he isn't just exporting them is that export does fine with the text and text formatting, but makes all his pretty graphics disappear. :(
So even with a Mac, the problem would remain...

Hmm,. I'm still looking into it, I'll let you know if I find anything.

But best of luck in the mean time.

    I found this
At least if he opens the .pages and then renames and saves as a .pdf, you would be able to use it - not edit it, unless you had a pricey PDF editor.

MS Word comes installed with converters, and should convert works to docs

    1. Place the documents you want to convert in a single folder.
    2. On the File menu, click New.
    3. In the New Document task pane, under New from template, click General templates.
    4. Click the Other Documents tab.
    5. Double-click Batch Conversion Wizard.
    6. Follow the directions on the screen.

I am dredging up this old thread because yesterday, I personally faced this problem.
jewlzs solution did not work because in Office 2007 there is no "New from template" entry.

Today, I got help from a person who uses a Mac.
    1. Right click the .pages file and select properties
    2. Change the extension .pages to .zip
    3. Unzip/extract the file (there may be several directories and maybe thumbnails, if graphics is involved)
    4. Open the Quicklook folder
    5. Open the preview.pdf file

Not only was I able to view the file sent and print it out but the graphics was correct and the formatting was retained.
