real quick question. is there a way to convert streaming video from a website or something into a video file?

There is tons of ways to do it. But the whole point of streaming video (in most cases) is to prevent people from doing just that. Which is why it's kinda hard.

If you really want though, you can always just record it as it plays using something like fraps.

I just want to take a news clip from CBS and put it into a video we're making for school. Is that ok?

Legally? I have no idea to be honest. I'm thinking it's got something that makes it OK since it's for school, but laws on copying streaming video are so vague I have no clue if it's technically legal or not.

Odds are to copy a stream video you'll still have to use some program to record it as it plays though.
