I am trying to find a way to play video files from from my hard drive that I first viewed on websites including but not limited to "YouTube". After watching some videos on various websites, I have retrieved some from Temporary Internet Files and archived them in a folder on my hard drive. I can watch many of these videos - they open in Windows Media Player or in QuickTime - but many will not open at all.

I am looking for a way to open a video file in Windows Media Viewer after I have watched it on a website (such as YouTube), retrieved it from Temporary Internet Files & archived it in a folder on my hard drive. I would like to be able to view the video without returning to the website.

This might involve converting the video file to a WMP file or AVI file.

Does anyone know how I might do this?

    Thank you, Just Playin.
I downloaded the program and used it to successfully decode a YouTube file.
I am still having trouble decoding a few other video files I have lying about but this is a very good program and I will try to familiarize myself with how it works.

    Thanks !

If you use the Firefox web browser then this program works pretty sweet as well >> Click

I have previously downloaded the Firefox downloader but so far I have not been able to figure out how tro use it to change a YouTube file into an AVI or WMP.

The file must be an AVI in order to sync it (at least with the tools I've used). You can try Virtual Dub; it will do just about anything video related and has tons of guides available on the web as it's very popular, but not the most user friendly program out there (that's why there's so many guides). And it's FREE! I have personally used a program called AVImuxGUI to sync AVI video/audio and it's really easy to use. The link below has the download, FAQs, manual, and just about anything else you'd need to use AVImuxGUI (it is also free ;) ).
    Good luck!

There's tons of great guides, tips, and the like at these two sites:

Thread is from August 2006! I suspect the OP found a cure.
Lady Hawk, please don't dredge up old threads and reply to them.
