Converting FAT32 to NTFS

I am not sure if i should convert from FAT32 to NTFS. I came across this in Secure XP.

Is it a good idea to do this?

 

Yes it's fine to convert. NTFS is much more reliable and efficient compared to FAT.

If i follow the page you sent me should i be worried of anything else that can go wrong? Can i do any damage or lose files etc?

 

No, there are some issues with the cluster size, but it's rare and never happened to me.

It's documented in the link I posted.

There is no going back to FAT32 once this is done (not that you would want to). (partion magic and other tools can do it, but it's not perfect or ideal)

I would be backing up and taking the necessary precautions regardless.

 

I am having troubles with the following:

'Download the BOOTITNG.ZIP file to its own folder, extract the contents of the ZIP file, then run BOOTITNG.EXE, which will make a bootable floppy. Boot this floppy'

I get to the part of running BOOTITNG.EXE, but dont know what to do after that.

 

Don't worry about it if it's XP.

Read the link, it says except for XP. (It also gives instructions on what to do if that's what you choose)

Skip that and just do the conversion, you'll be fine, I've done it dozens of times.

Just read the hints for Windows Activation if it applies to you.

 

So i just have to follow from defragmenting the disk onwards?
