Converting Quicktime MOV to DivX AVI

I spent a good portion of the afternoon yesterday struggling with a MOV video clip that I wanted to convert to a DivX AVI so I could play it back on my DVD player on my big screen TV (it supports DivX playback). Should be pretty straight-forward and simple, right? WRONG! I first tried using Dr. DivX which I have always had really good results with and it converts just about everything. It would start to convert and get to about 25% and then BAM! "Dr. DivX has encountered an error and needs to close. To send an error report....." I tried it several times, rebooted in between, still the same crash in the same place. So I went to Google. I found a few freeware apps: the first one kept saying 'unable to decode source file'. The second one sat at 0% for over 30 minutes. But the third one worked great. It was slow, but it worked fine. The end result is a bit pixelated, but at least it worked. I figured I'd try it again with a different program that a friend of mine recommended, Quick Media Converter. I've mentioned it in other threads here at MG. Anyway- it worked PERFECTLY! Much faster than the other freeware program and very easy to use, and perfect results. So, what's the point of this thread? I don't know I'm just rambling and sharing my frustrating experience with MOV Quicktime files and why I really don't like 'em (I don't like RMVB/RM Real Media files either).

Awesome... I was about to go on a hunt for a good .MOV conversion program myself, as I have an HD digital camcorder that natively records in .MOV format. Thanks!
