    Hi,
i have a video i edited that i want to convert to something smaller, preferably in HD resolutions, but i don't care. here's the deal:

my video editor has an issue of peaking the audio to the point where it's utterly useless, and there's nothing i can do about it. oh, that and NONE of my codecs work. so it will only spit out raw avi with a broken audio track. i've been able to extrapolate a properly working audio track that i was able to slip in with virtualdub, but again, since none of my codecs work, it's in raw avi format that apparently only vlc and divx author can seem to understand (not even virtualdub can read its own outputted file). and divx author seems to not like me at all. it just stared at the raw avi file and tried to convert it to divx by 1% every 9 hours. dr divx was able to convert the file, but it didn't read the audio track, so it's a muted 80mb video. i tried virtualdub on that file, but again, none of my codecs work, so it didn't recognize dx50 and refused to work. winff doesn't work either. nor does tmpgenc. both because it doesn't know there are codecs installed. and ms moviemaker laughs at me and hangs. i have divx and xvid installed, though, so theoretically it should work. all of this is on vista home basic 64 bit edition.

so i'm kinda stuck.... not sure what to do now. anyone have any new ideas? and as for the encoding of the raw avi, i'm not exactly sure what it is.

    tia.

What format was the original video file before your editor turned it into a RAW avi format? Is the audio o.k. in the original file? You seem to have a lot of software that should be able to do the whole job from start to finish unless the codecs are a major problem.

GSpot should be able to tell you what type of file/codec was used for the RAW avi.

Just a note: at some point in time you should consider removing some of your codecs and installing an all purpose Vista codec pack.

the original file was from the camcorder, DV. and according to G-spot, i'm dealing with a 11.5gb UYVY "no codec required" file with 5.5gb of unneeded bytes at the end of the file and 48khz 3072kb/s stereo.

so i uninstalled all the random floating codecs and applications, then installed the vista codec pack. same thing. it's as if the codecs don't even exist.
