Hello! I wanted a program that could convert .avi to a smaller file size like .rmvb. As much as possible, the software should be small in size. Because my remaining free space is less than 1GB already. It should also be convertible to other extensions for all-around use. Also! The speed of converting should be fast too! :) Anyone?

    Thanks!

    P.S.
I want to clarify, is converting a video can reduce its size?

Yes, converting a video can reduce it size, but can also reduce quality. Generally speaking, the smaller a video file is, the worse the quality is (depending on file length in time, and codec used, and other factors). Files with the .rm and .rmvb extension are Real Media files based on the Real codec. You can also convert files to Divx, and set a custom size and then burn them CD or DVD. With limited drive space, this is probably you're best option, or get a bigger hard drive. 1gb in free space is barely enough to run Windows and all your other apps, and 1gb will fill up VERY quickly if you're doing any video work. If you convert your avi files to standard DVD format, you can burn them for playback on a home DVD player, but you need about 10gb in free space for the app to do it's work before it burns the movie to a blank DVD. If you have your heart set on Real format, you'll need the Real Producer, or Easy Real Converter...

To convert to DivX format, set a custom file size (1CD=700mb) and burn it to CD using Nero, or your favorite CD burning app. Use Dr. DivX:

To convert your media video files to DVD for playback on a home DVD player, use DVDFlick. It's free and works with just about any format:

DVD Flick how to guide in PDF format: http://www.dvdflick.net/guide.php Remember, you need about 10gb in free space for DVD work...
And finally, here's SUPER... it's an all purpose media file converter for both audio and video files and can convert between most formats. It's free, and can playback most media file formats also:

Keep in mind, for media file work, you'll need the appropriate codecs installed, so a good codec pack is essential. I like the Storm pack, it includes over 200 codecs, plus it has Media Player Classic and the GSpot codec identifier built-in. Here's the link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Storm_Codec_d5491.html

Wow! Thanks for that information! As for the codec, I'm currently using K-Lite Codec Pack.
