Converting .wmv to .MPEG

Couldn 't find anything off hand in the MG list but I was wondering if anyone knew if a free porgram to convert a .wmv to a .mpeg?

I found a ton but they all leave watermarks right in the middle of the video -_-

Why mpeg? What are you trying to do with the Mpeg that you can't do with the wmv?

Mpeg-2 is the same as VOB or DVD format but is fairly large.
Mpeg-4 is the same as AVI and more comparable to WMV.

 

I am trying to burn a .wmv to a DVD and my software says it can't do it in this format.

 

Do you need it to play on a standalone DVD player? Then DVDFlick will convert and put it in DVD format which is a few tiny .bup and .ifo files and a large .vob file(s). The files can then be burned to disc for play on a DVD player. [Note DVDFlick by default converts to PAL(European DVD format) if you are in America you want to change to NTSC format. http://www.dvdflick.net/guide/index_en.html

Or you can just take the files DVDFlick produces and change the .VOB extension to .mpg or .mpeg and they will play on a PC with a standard codec pack.

If I've misunderstood what you need to do let me know. If you just want to backup the wmv to disc you should be able to burn as data to a DVD but it will only be playable on a PC.

 

Nope you pretty much nailed it I will need to play it on a standalone DVD player. I'll check out DVDflick.

It looks like some wmv audio is not supported so it may be hit or miss on your file. When you add the title (your wmv file) make sure you read the window that pops up to make sure it will include the sound.

 

I use a freeware program called "Format Factory".
