I fought hard to get flashcard/posters to printed in colour but when I got them the formatting was all over the place and now I cannot use them! I also need to save files as pdf format because the school computer doesn't have the font I need. Moreover, I want to share files by email with my colleague who works in another school and I'm afraid that the formatting will also be all over the place because of her settings or version of word. Is there a free downloadable Word to pdf converter? All I can see is software that works the other way round - Softonic requires me to sign in with facebook account but I don't have one.

Edit: I can see an option to print as PDF but I don't have a printer and it wouldn't solve the problem of sending a pdf file online... Online converters are not convenient as my internet connection is unreliable: I need an offline converter.

You can use a virtual printer.
PDF-XChange Lite is what I use. It's free and will print any file to PDF, that means it will save the file as a PDF.

This actually means save as PDF.

Thanks. I wonder why the wording is PRINT as PDF file, instead of SAVE as pdf file: it's confusing for a basic user like me!

A bit confusing is also the two download buttons on the website. I clicked the left hand one but download got stuck - but the same file with the word "free" worked. :)

Try using OpenOffice (or LibreOffice). I use it to convert Word documents to .pdf format. Open the document in OpenOffice and then File>Export as PDF.

Usually does a good job of it (eg retaining formatting and fonts) and I have to date never had anyone I sent a pdf to say it was corrupted.

Try the Portable version (which is what I use, free) will avoid the potential of any conflict with Word.

    Good Luck

Hi, Your solution is to just download an add on from microsoft. After installing this add on, when you click the save as menu, this option of xps or pdf will be shown. Just give a name and save the file.

I was not aware of that addon for Office 2007.

I have a "printer" (dopdf) installed for the computers running Office 2003 that allows us to print or save as pdf.

    It's very basic.
doPDF is better and works from all programs with a print function.

Hi the add on provided by microsoft office.if you use it you know the power of it.
    Did you use it?
What is basic? The op is asking to convert docs to pdf and this add on was suggested. Not to belittle do pdf.
