Google Chrome is not loading up for some reason. Instead, I get the box that says "Google Chrome has stopped working" and the options
"check online for a solution and close the program" and "close the program".
Needless to say, checking online does nothing. I'm on Vista.
Here is the log reading from chrome
below. Most grateful for any suggestions.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Greetings, radiodaze10, and welcome to MajorGeeks.

Where did you get this copy of Chrome? May be a corrupt download - you might try downloading again (Google Chrome 14.0.835.187), see if your symptoms change.

If that's not the case, make sure you're offline and any antivirus software is temporarily disabled while attempting to install.

    Also, check out this page.

Many thanks Caliban. Actually I did uninstall and reinstall chrome but I did not disable anti-virus.

STILL NO GO i'm afraid. Uninstalled Chrome and then re-installed with the anti-virus off. It tried to launch and then same message as before.

    The log mentions:-

    Fault Module Name: datamngr.dll
    Fault Module Version: 1.0.0.1
    Fault Module Timestamp: 4de6a459

Could it be something to do with this?

I'm finding a few malware hits when searching for info about 'datamngr.dll' - have you recently been infected and/or cleaned of an infection, specifically the 'Searchqu Toolbar'?

Yes I have been infected with searchqu toolbar. I thought I'd got rid of it in chrome but when I fired up IE there it was again. It is persistent.

Previously I went through tools > Manage Add-ins and disabled it in IE and I did the equivalent in Chrome. Now it looks as if I need to more under the hood so to speak.

Can you recommend a good tool or procedure to deal with it?

    Thanks again Caliban

Might be best to get rid of the thing once and for all - from what I understand, it's a problem waiting to happen. If your luck's anything like mine, the damn thing will rear its ugly head at the most inopportune time.

Head on over to the Malware Forum's Read & Run Me First thread, perform all of the suggested steps, and attach the requested logs to a new thread in that forum.

Once they give you the all clear, try the Chrome thing again and let us know how it goes.

    Good luck!

I'm preparing to go through the whole Malware removal process. In one stage it says that all disc simulation tools such as Domain Tools should be stopped before progressing.

I have Acronis Trueimage non-stop back up on my machine. It doesn't look as if there is any easy way of stopping it. Should I just uninstall it before I proceed? (I'm not sure if it is a disc simulation tool)

That's a good question, one that I'm not qualified to answer.

If I were in your shoes, I'd go ahead and start the thread in the Malware Forum and ask the gurus there.

Thanks anyway Caliban. I'm getting a good education here... Off to the malware forum now...
