Cooked video card?

Im having problems with graphixs.
NVIDA GeForce FX 5200 card
I received an error and on restart my screen kept flashinh on and off. Then received message: Device driver got stuck in an infinate loop

the only way I can get comp to run is to start in safe mode disable video card then restart.

 

Try booting in safe mode, removing ALL of your graphic display drivers, then reloading the drivers from scratch. Sounds like a corrupt driver.

 

Remove do you mean uninstall. I've done that. how do I reinstall them?

 

Yes, uninstall. You may have to search a bit to make sure you get everything. Go to My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager/Display Adapters and check there to make sure you've removed/uninstalled everything there. Also, use CCleaner to fix any issues of left behind files. Reboot your computer letting XP use necessary display drivers. Assuming you're running XP, download Nvidia's driver for your card here. Save the file anywhere you can find it (like your desktop, you can delete it when you're done), open it, then the installer will walk you through the rest. When it's done, it will ask you if you want to reboot now or later... Reboot.

This should set you up with a clean install of the latest driver for your Geforce card. Let me know how it goes, and good luck.

 

If after follwoing sasumis advice your still having problems you may want completely clean any residual drivers from your system,once you have removed the nvidia driver via add\remove programs run this program follow the instructions in the readme to the letter or it wont work 'skip cab cleaner'

If you'v had an ATI driver card installed before your nvidia driver you may also need to clean with ATI in driver cleaner

 

Thanks Sasumis and Rikky, Sasumis fix worked. Still have some qaulity issues but I should be able to work out with NVIDIA settings tool (wich is kinda cool). I 'll post up if any probs and thanks again.

Graphics freeze now when playing game. I s this because the driver? should I try the driver b4 this one?

 

Ok reg cleaned uninstalled reinstalled the whole nine yards. What is happening is while playing condename panzers phase 1 it'll freeze then continue normal and/or the the graphics degrade and polygonalize and colors shift. This happens in single player and multi online. Could this be the drivers or possible my graphix card going bad? It is 4 yrs old and been thru alot of gaming. Is there a older driver I can try oh yeah I'm kinda of a noob l-Ol.

 

That does sound like a card gone bad. Almost sounded like too much graphics for the card, but even your 5200 shouldn't have a problem, especially in single player mode. Do you have access to another video card you could swap for a couple hours? Preferably another GeForce card so you don't have to use a different driver. That would tell you for sure if it was your card or not.

I'm getting every last ounce out of a 3-4 year old Ti4200 that's got some funky graphic issues. Some of the issues you're having sound familiar, except the freezing. Just curious, is your bios set up correctly for your video card? Don't think that would cause the issues you're having, but hey... anything's possible when it comes to these boxes we play with that are full of electricity running around screaming, "YES!" "NO!" (Don't ask, it's just the part about computers I find funny).

By the way, since nobody has asked and you hadn't mentioned it, I'd like to know some specs of the box you're running. If you're still using a seriously outdated system, you might be looking at other solutions to fulfill your gaming desires.
