Getting the cookie bar on this website again. This time I followed the link to a UK web site...https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-pecr/cookies-and-similar-technologies/. While the site does use a secure connection it is placing cookies on my machine and not notifying me of the fact, or asking my permission, LOL. While I do not allow third party or session cookies as a normal course of action I do normally allow first party cookies. Hypocrites, do as we say, not as we do. Was viewing the following page...http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/likenewpc.html

    HI

So the link was to a UK site ( the Info Comm Office) and that gave you the cookie control bar and was this bar one that states we use cookies and read terms? or did you get the Cookie bar before you clicked to go to a UK website as if the latter one Majorgeeks has no jurisdiction on what 3rd party links will hold or display. As the main site and we in this case would be a 1st party cookie, we still have no control on 3rd party cookies as you clicked the link off the site/forum. What on the likenewpc download where you clicking, did it just appear on initial view of the page or did you click anything, if so what?

EU law dictates that all websites of European countries have to display a cookie bar http://ec.europa.eu/ipg/basics/legal/cookies/index_en.htm

Have to ask do US sites or other nations ask this before putting cookies on your PC as cookies have been around since WWW and have never been a malware issue.

Have to say I got nothing when visiting that likenewpc page and I do normally as I'm in the UK and we are subject to these all the time, can be a PITA if you have just used CCleaner.

We have a bar that pops up if you are in the EU. You have to accept cookies to use this site, and frankly, you couldn't post here if you didn't. (well it would be crazy annoying). The bar we use is compliant with EU law - which BTW is the stupidest law on the internet.

We are not responsible for other third party sites.

BTW - while I am at it. On our privacy page LONG before this eu nonsense, we listed most of the companies we do business with and their opt-outs. These days, its dang near impossible because ad networks are so plentiful and fast that if I run say an ad with doubleclick, they actual could be running an ad from a third party to fill the space better than they could.

This is called RTB or Real Time Bidding Networks.

    But I digress... as usual.

I have no problem with cookies, they make my life better and trying to hide from them is like trying not to breathe air.... But I understand some do. There is a service, that we have had listed on our privacy page for years, that does a ton of the work for you.

    http://www.networkadvertising.org/managing/opt_out.asp

It will scan your system, show you the companies, link to privacy pages and you can select to opt out of tracking for any or all.
Pretty easy and way more effective and the eu model which basically tell me to put a bar up that says "we have cookies accept or leave" .

    I hope this helps some.
