    Hello everyone

I am now a proud owner of An ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard. After I installed all the drivers and other programs for the motherboard I thought I would take advantage of the Cool 'n' Quiet feature. The next day I powerd up my new PC and found out that the CPU fan was not spinning and the Asus probe was telling me this aswell. I then quickly turned the PC off and left it like that. But then I was wondering if that was just part of the Cool 'n' Quiet takeing affect, but I wanted to be 100% sure before I started messing around with it again. I did read the manual regarding the Cool 'n' Quiet program but could find nothing regarding my question.

Also I noticed that the chipset fan is rather noisey and has been renouned to be called the "coffe grinder". I think mine is like a concrete mixer! I have read up on this problem and some people have gone through some extream mesures to resolve the issue, like completely replacing the small fan and heatsink with a bigger heatsink. I'm not too happy with the idea of removeing the heatsink as it would mean that I would have to cut out the plastic holders. My hands are not the most steady things going :\ Is there an easier way around this?

Nowadays computer parts get too hot too quick for ANY cooling mechanism to not be functioning 100% of the time...whether it is the cpu cooler, chipset cooler, etc. Now...a smart cooling system might turn down the rpm's of a fan or something to that effect...but i've never heard of a cooling system not functioning at all, until it gets warm enough to be needed!! Computers are kind of like cars...the cooler they are...the more performance you are going to get out of it!!

As far as the chipset cooler is concerned...why not just replace the fan!!?? If for some reason some dirt got into the fan motor..it might just have bad bearings, or whatever you want to call them!! Or it could just be a defective fan!! And fans are cheap!!

Its all been sorted. I spoke to one of my buddy's who happens to have the same MB as me, about the problem and he said that it is normal behaviour for the CPU fan to not spin untill the CPU tempreture reaches 28C. And the Cool 'n' Quiet is involved with that as well.

And as for the chipset fan it seems the smaller they are the more noise they make. I could just get another small fan to replace it but it would likely happen again. So I am going to get someone to replace it with cooler fins, as they seem to do the trick. :D
