Cool or not?

I have a question for anyone who runs an amd Athlon XP on a Gigabyte
    7VT600P-RZ mobo. The board comes with a built-in monitoring/over-
clocking program they call easytuneV. When I first built the PC it kept
crashing on me over and over apparantly because it was overheating.
The temp. max. limit was set at 60 C and after about 1 min. apx. the
computer would shut down because the easytuneV program was reporting
that the cpu was overheating. I reset the heatsink with the proper
amount of thermal paste on the heatsink itself,as per instructions.
Well, that did not do anything so Iwent out and bought a Cooler Master
Jet 7+ cpu cooler and mounted that puppy. I managed to keep the
PC running but only if the fan was on max. rpm. It say's I'm idling at
apx. 46 C to 50 C which is still way too hot!! Recently, I downloaded
a program from a max. PC magazine cd called PC Wizard 2006. It say's
the cpu is 34 C to 36 C at rest and it say's the cpu is maxing out at 50 C
to 54 when I'm playing Need for speed underground. It also is reporting
the mobo temp. to be a lot less as well, around 24 C to 34 C on a hot day.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? I think the Gigabyte Easy-
TuneV program is giving me bogus information concerning the actual
temps. It makes me a little nervous to try out their overclocking
feature. Any information would be most appreciated.

I don't run an Athlon but the temps that PC Wizard are giving you sound a lot more like what it should be running at. Im running an Intel chip that idles around 38 c nd tops out around 55-56 C. Hopefully someone with a comp closer to your specs will come along soon and answer.

    I would skip EasyTune.
OCing is best done via BIOS

Temps? what's your BIOS readings, try Everest, try MBM5, Compare all of them.
Accuracy of temps is limited by the sensor accuracy.
Ya might check if any BIOS updates are temp related, I never had any Temp issues, I think running Bios v F3 on my 7VT600F

Probably the best CPU cooler available for socket A is a ThermalRight SI-97a with a 92mm fan

I have an GA-7VT600F, one of my Kids uses now, a couple yr ago I used Easytune for mild OC, it fried my MOBO, then it took almost 12 weeks for Gigabyte to repair it:eek:
IMO Easytune is just Plain Dangerous!

Thanks everyone for the response to my thread concerning cooling an AMD 2900 on a Gigabyte mobo. A special thank-you to ASUS for your thoughts
on this issue! I also would not trust the overclocking feature on EasyTune V!
I checked the bios as ASUS suggested and it also reports very high idle temps. and high board temps. as well. I will continue to investigate.
    Thanks again.
