I purchased a new hp desktop with windows 8 and was using it, then yesterday when I downloaded dvdfab 9 the cooling fan for the processor turned on and it has been running continuously since. is there a way to adjust the running time one these or some kind of power setting. thanks

    Hi frank

If you uninstall DVDFab does the fan return to normal speed, as in general the CPU fan will kick in when its under strain and with conversion of video files then the CPU will in most cases ramp up its speed and heat, thus the fan cooling speed.

I take it you have rebooted and the fan speed is the same?
If you boot into safe mode (F8 at boot) then does the fan speed stay the same?

having a problem with dvdfab 8 and 9 both lockup on install and can't get them to uninstall either. I think it is some kind of software conflict. trying to find cccleaner right now as a place to start any other ideas on how to do a clean uninstall of software that doesn't play nice with your new machine?

    frank10...

I can't speak for the native features of the program uninstaller in W8, but in all the other OSes, I would have an uninstaller on the machine. There are many, but I can only speak for Comodo Programs Manager. Revo is popular, but I haven't used it in a long time.

I don't think this will solve your current problem, because CPM and Revo have to themselves be installed before they will begin to record your installations.

No time like while your computer is new to add an uninstaller. Surely wouldn't hurt to have it, and you can look around for information on the W8 uninstaller when you get a chance and when there is more information available on the effectiveness of the native unistaller of your OS...

There is a program called InstallWatch that might help you here. When you install a program, it provides a list of all the files/folders and registry changes made to your PC. You can save and keep the records, which is neat. I guess if it gets bad, maybe it would help to see the installation record. Google turned up this for downloading it:

This is a safe link...same one I used...

windows 8 is new to me and I worked at it and finally did a refresh on the computer which is basically a recovery by a different name. but it took care of the problem. just have to reload my programs including the uninstaller recommended above. won't make that mistake again. thanks for all the help.
