Cooling for AMD Athlon 64x2 4200+ socekt AM2

Hi everyone. I just put together a pretty descent machine with the new socket AM2 AMD 4200 processor. However, the CPU idles at roughly 48 C, while it peaks at around 60 C under load. This is a bit too uncomfortable for me, and i was wondering what kind of heatsink and fan should i put on there. I also realize that the two exhaust 120mm fans that came with the chassis are a bit weak at 40 CFM, but i will take some steps to correct that pretty soon. For now though, i need some pointers on this socket AM2 CPU. Thanks.

I would Ignore padams post as the Cooler he or she linked too Isn't compatible with an AMD x2 4200 AM2


If that x2 4200 is a retail version, didnt it come with a Heatpipe cooler?

If it did it's better than a lot of aftermarket HS

Either way The problem may be the Thermal paste/Pad or poor case airflow or both

I would recommend the Zalman CNPS 9000. It was able to lower my CPU temp by 9C after the Arctic Silver 5 was fully "cured". I love it.

Just make sure that it will fit in your case along with all the other hardware. It is not the largest out there, but its size is still above average. I had do do some surgery on my P180's VGA airbox so that the HSF would vent upward toward the blowhole.
