cooling issue

    I have a compaq presario desktop s3000NX has AMD athlon xp 2000 512 ram. i turned it on and went to bios. the temerature just keeps rising its been on for 5 mins and its at 48 degree cel. What should i do.... i have AS5 if thats needed

    Now its at 53 degrees cel. Thats 129 degrees farenheight

    Death not till around 85c but youll probably have problems before that.

    Thats probably more tha norm for stock off the shelf Compaq.
    Lot's a things factor into the temps.
    Room Temp
    Dirt, clean the old PC.
    Does the case have good airflow?
    Remove & reinstall the HSF and use Artic Silver or Artic Ceramic paste, Dont forget to clean both CPU & Heatsink.
    Most off the shelf PC's lack in good air flow.
    A great aftermarket Heat sink is these socket A/462 is the Thermalright SI-97a ( got one on the PC in my sig my CPU is at 29c & I'm over clocked, 506 fsb on the CPU & memory at 2403 mhz, stock is 266fsb at 2000mhz , MOBO temp 29c Room temp 72f)
