Cooling Ok for lapop?

I have a Compaq Presario M2005US what it says on box. Presario M2000 on laptop screen upper right hand corner.
1.3GHZ
256 MB OF RAM
Windowx XP
40GIG HDD
DVD/CDRW


And i was wondering what to to hot and whats not for the cpu because this is my first laptop and it is very very warm to the touch over the CPU and where the fan outlet is. And if there is any other way to make the fan run more or to keep the cpu just a little coller or if the temp is ok i don't know if teres a program that tels you the temp of the CPU or not but if it is i would greatly appreicate it!

the evercool pad might be a good sollution if your notebook is really overheating. but before buying anything make sure u really need it. in order for you to check your temps you can use various programs including speendfan, motherboard monitor 5 and PC Wizard 2005.. they are all for free and can be found using google

i just started the laptop up about 5 mins ago due to this post plugged in my RJ-45 cable and checked 3 mail boxes and got on here after reading about an update on a game i play.

So im going keep wach on the temp but what is a normal temp for a laptop to get to?

to be honest im not sure about temperatures of mobile cpus but it seems that yours is at the upper limit... if it doesnt go much over 60 its ok... do u get sudden reboots sometimes after playing games for a while?

i think you might want to return it if it gives u any sort of trouble.. ive only had bad experiences with compaq pcs and 128mb of ram is not enough for modern applications.. its the lowest amount possible these days, but then again everything depends on what you want to use it for

 

I play runescpae.com and quake3 team arena and bidforpower that uses the quake 3 engine and never have any probs and i meas to type in 256 MB if ram lol my jelly fingers! but never any sudden reboots or no slowing of preformance in laptop i just wanna take extra care of this laptop cuz its my first laptop and after spending 4 hours looking from store to store at the best deals for the best price this was very fair price for the package plus i bought the 2 year warrenty from best buy and got 1 year warreny from Compaq them self.

 

"jelly fingers" hehe. well, to be honest 4 hours of research before buyin a notebook isnt exactly a lot of research.. but then again i take it that you are not too interested in computers anyways... no sudden reboots is good and if you stick to the older games you should be ok. 1 year waranty is good in case somethin goes wrong heatwise...
just to be sure, download something like cpu-burn-in or prime 95 (very good) and let it run as long as possible (about 12hrs of prime95) and see if any errors come up. if not your machine is stable . but when you test it do it in a place where you would usually be using the pc so that the external heat factors are the same (in case ur desk is next to a radiator or something)...

 

Ok kool ill download it now. but i ben looking for aptops for over 1 month on ebay and other internet sites seing the best deal and this is what i got...but as far as being interested on computer im actually in mt 1st year of being a computer tech professor in college now i have along way to go...but i actually built a few desktops and know everything a person could know plus alot mor about desktop maintance performnces and other stuff but when it comes to laptops im still amazzed on ow the can make somethng so small equal to a desktop. But thank you for answerng my question!

Ok just tested under Unreal tourney 2004 quake 3 team arena guild wars and runescape.com and she stayed under 69C the whole time without my help!!
By the wat my laptop is setting infront of my A/C so if she tries to over heat on goes the ac the lid channels the cold A/C down under the laptop!

well mine is now staying at 40C HDD Temp 1 50C to 60C and i have done alot of research and its good as long as it stays under 70C but if u use an intel Celron or a Pentium they just lose performance and reboot but i heard that AMDS will just fry til they don't work i don't know why maybe the way they were built but i also have mine infront of a A/C which im trying to keep the A/C from htting the laptop due to condesation from the A/C and don't want to fry my laptop and have no where else in my room to set it up from all the junk i need ebay! I am a major ebayer i bt cheap sell for more!
