My sons are getting a new Xbox 360 for Christmas. I have been reading alot about these overheating issues. I have found two fans, the pelican and the Nyko Intercooler. Has anyone had any experience with these? Which is better? Is it really needed? They will probably play it a few hours everyday? Thanks for the help.

If you keep it on a flat surface (hardwood floor, table, etc) your fine. If it's sitting on the carpet it's going to have minor heating issues. I believe the issue was also only on the first edition Xbox360s, however the problem should be solved by now. If you find that a fan IS necissary, i would read some reviews and see which is better.

Yes I looked at all these options. And this was before we even had the thing. They got it Christmas day and so far no issues. I think it locked up on Call Of Duty:Finest Hour and few times, but I don't know if it was heat issues or not since the rest of the games aren't doing it. I have it on a hard flat surface as was recommended so, so far so good. Thanks for the info and ideas. I will implement a fan if needed. I figure the laptop cooling pad might would be the best, however the other two designed for the Xbox360 have merit. Just looking at the specs they do not appear to displace the CFM as much as I would expect. Anyway, thanks for the replies and I will post if I feel like a change is needed and let you guys know which one I think does the best job.

Your best bet is to purchase the clip on Cooling Fan unit, and not try to use some "Geek" retro fix. to keep it cool.

i had an xbox360 a while back untill it broke dew to the fact that the cpu fried itself, im not sure on the specifics but it isnt tht comon but does hapen, last week wen my friend and i were playing his 360 that he got for x-mass the game we were playing - gears of war kept of freezing up, we had not tamperd with the console atol or moved it while it was on and when we removed the disk it had scratched it apart some areas looked like the botom of a skate board. so i have no idea what caused that but just a warning. hope u dont have any problems
