I wouldn't use one. The air flow for ATX systems is designed to flow in the bottom of the front of case and out the top back (PSU) or middle back. Adding these into the PCI slots will screw up the whole air flow of the system, possibly chocking your CPU of fresh air since the air will now tend to flow in the front bottom and out the back bottom... without going over the CPU.

If you need more cooling, you can always buy higher speed fans.

I would love to, but my case doesnt have space (that I know of) for more cooling. I dont have it right now, it wuz defective (the PS) but i dont think it has any. And water cooling? yeah. if i had enough $$$. What about cooling that goes into my unused 5.25 inch cdrom bay? i found one, and i guess it works like an air conditioner. It is supposed to remove humidity, and lower temps by up to (even though this is of course, with ideal conditions) 10 degrees C. This wont happen, cause im not in an EXTREMELY humid area, but we have our fair share, of water in the air (sorry bout the bad rhyme. i had typed it before i realized what i was saying. Thanx though. I wish i had money for a nice case

Yea, water cooling would be awesome.

What case do you have? may give us an idea as to what can be added or not

What are the temps you are reaching which prompts you to seek further cooling? just curious as to why you feel the need for more cooling

As DaChicken said those types that you are looking at wouldnt do much good in normal pc cases, possibly would help in server towers or large cases, but in normal case they just take that lovely cool air from the front and even before its had time to work its way over the CPU etc etc.

some ways to help reduce case temps are to have the components inside neat and tidy especially the IDE and power cables ... a small guide on how to tidy up the cables http://www.viperlair.com/articles/retired/int_antec.shtml

plus I think DaChicken was in his bit about getting higher speed fans was to replace your existing ones with higher rated CFM fans ( with higher rated CFM can come higher noise ) thus increasing airflow.

but do give us a clue to what case you have then positive solutions can be found :)

i have a soyo barebone kit. the case is HUGE, and has a micro mobo. i could probly fit two mobos into it, and thats not even a joke. if u want to see it, it is at tigerdirect.com. SOYO K7VME under the barebones section. i have an athlon xp 2200+ running at 2500+. My temp is around 55 with a medium size load, so if i worked more on it, it could go up, and that worries me. i dont think the case was made for xtra fans, but i dont have $$$ for a new one

more powerfull fans dosent mean more fans. just replace the fans you have. i would reccomend the vantec tornado fans. they are loud as hell. but move more air than a house fan.

What about considering putting a really good heatsink/fan combo on the CPU as well?

Some kind of Thermaltake or something? (I am unfamiliar with the different kinds, I just use the stock one)

Cleaning all the gunk off of the CPU before you put the new heatsink/fan on, and using a high quality interface, like Arctic Silver, or some such thing?

    i already have a thermaltake

Are you confident that the interface is "nice"? You could clean off both surfaces with isopropyl alchohol and a lint free cloth, reapply Artic Silver ---- sparingly,
and then give it a go.

Also, if you replace flat ribbon cables with the rounded ones it will allow for more airflow. (as has been mentioned). As well as the great idea of replacing the case fans with some that have more "muscle" (cubic feet of air moved per minute I think is how they are rated).

    Good luck
