This is my first posting so I am trying to search my way. I think this is the correct space to state my problem.
I need to find a program which I can use to open a program I have downloaded to the iMac, but when I try to open it I get a message telling me to find a program in the apps store to enable me to open the program. But I don't know what to look for in the apps store. I hope someone can suggest a suitable program or programs.

Thank you very much for the info, there is a lot to digest in it about Apple downloads, but one thing I learned from the article is I will look for an "Installer" program rather than a "Download" program, because the program I want to open, which is called "Spoofstick" and warns if a Web site you are opening is a fake site, is already downloaded. I just need to open it.
I will take your advice and delete the old Downloads. They have accumulated because I have haven't bothered to delete them.
