My system is XP Pro, SP 2. I had it for a year or so and assumed you could copy files to a DVD (DVD-RW) from my CD/DVD combo set up. I have no problem coping files to CD's, but can't copy to a DVD. In reading from the Help section, it doesn't appear this can be done. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have a DVDRW drive, you can burn to DVD's no problem. But, Windows does NOT have DVD support built in, like it does for CD's. You need a 3rd party application to burn DVD's (data or video). You may want to check online and make sure that your model of CD/DVD drive does indeed support burning DVD's. Just look in the Device Manager for the model number, then Google that number. If it does burn DVD's, and if you don't have Nero (most DVDRW drives ship with an OEM version of Nero), try BurnAware. It's free, and it'll do many of the things that Nero does, except for 1:1 copies and some other stuff... anyway, I like it alot, and it is FREE!

Also, double check that your drive is actually a DVD burner. It might be a CD burner but only able to read DVDs. I have two drives like that in rwo different computers.

Well in checking the Dell specs, it says I have a CD/DVD burner but may need 3rd party help as you say. I loaded BurnAware and I got it to burn my Quicken file on a brand new DVD. However, the DVD now shows full and will not accept anything else, but I know there is no way my Quicken file would fill it to capacity. I must have done something incorrectly. Any ideas what I might have done? Thanks very much for your help.

I tried Burn Aware and it couldn't successfully burn a data file (I was burning a CD). It appeared to burn successfully; it told me it burned successfully but I ended up with a frisbee. This program is still beta so you might want to look for something better.

When the DVD was reported as full, it may have been 'closed' by BurnAware. There's a setting in there somewhere that yiou can check/uncheck to close out or "finalize" a disc. Personally, I've had no trouble at all with Burn Aware, but, it is in Beta stages, so problems can arise. Another great free CD/DVD burner is FinalBurner. And another is CDBurnerXP... here's the links:

I realize what I was doing wrong now. I was trying to copy using the right click on the file I wanted copied. I see now that you must go thru BurnAware. Maybe I'll give the others a try. Thanks again. :)

Jud149, I didn't give you a "such as" because I've been trying to find a suitable burner for the computer I tried Burn Aware on. So far, I've come up empty handed. I do use ImgBurn for ISOs but not data files.

I've looked at this a few times
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4242.html
but if I remember correctly, it uses a version of .NET not installed on this computer or looking over this list
    http://www.cdburnerxp.se/testeddrives
my DVD drive was not supported.

I'm downloading it again. I did find my drive in the supported list. If I get a .NET error, the FAQs will tell me how to tackle that.
