Why does it take my pc 25 minutes to copy 656MB of data from a data CDROM to my hard drive? Is this normal?

I just right clicked on the CDROM drive letter, selected Copy, then went to my desktop and right-clicked then Paste. It took 25 minutes. I have a Pentium 4 3.0 ghz with 1.0 GB ram, a 10,000rpm raptor, so I don't understand why it would take so long. My CDROM drive is supposed to be a 52x read, and that is supposed to be very fast? Hrrmm, what am I missing?

    Thanks for any advice, Dennis

Does this occur with any other CD? Have you ever had problems with that particular CD? Try a different CD first to eliminate any CD corruption.

Then I would suggest swapping out a different cable, then the CD drive to eliminate any hardware issues there. That is if you can.

While you have the CD Drive out, where are the jumper set? Are they in the correct placing for your setup? I've had this issue before and all it was, was the jumpers in the wrong place. That was on a machine that a user was trying to upgrade and was not well informed. Again it depends on your setup.

Is your setup OEM? Did you build it?
