Copy DL'd program for another computer?

I have a Gateway computer with Win98 1st Edition that is not connected to the Internet or networked. I'd like to get some of the downloaded programs that are on my Dell computer (no disks for these) to the Gateway. Can I? I thought of copying a program onto a CD and using the CD to put the program onto the Gateway. But, what do I copy? I tried copying just the setup file from the download and using it to install onto the Gateway. This worked right up to the "Finish" part of the installation. When I clicked Finish, the program tried to connect to the Internet, which of course stopped me.

 

If you plan to install programs that require real-time internet access, then you should probably not install them at all, or connect your machine to the internet.

The set up file is exactly the right file to copy.

Make sure the programs have system requirements that the Gateway system can meet in future, before installing them. They aught to be listed on the websites you download them from, but if not you can always email the webmaster, I guess.

 

Thanks. I've been careful to do as you said concerning system requirements. Case in point: There's a free photo editing program called XPicture which says it works on Win9x. I downloaded the setup to my Dell, copied it to a CD, then tried to install it on the Gateway, but got to a point where it wanted to connect to the Internet. I don't see why it has to connect to the Internet, because I thought it was just a photo editing program. I'm confused.
