Wow...very scary. I guess it makes sense though since they are all computerized now. I'm glad I have my own copier at home in my printer.

To tell you the truth, I never really thought about the copier catching all that. I could only image if scammers could just start buying old copy machines they could get people info darn easy with one of those machines.

I'll tell you what is really scary.

Those of you have posted to this, are all Major Geeks. And to a person, none of you, me included, seemed to know this was the case with these enterprise level copiers/scanners.

So if you didn't know, who does? And what kind of our personal info is sitting out there on these HD's? Like, right now?

Or, and I hope this is the case, is this whole video/report just another urban myth? It seemed legit to me. Is it???

It's legit. I've seen the inside of copiers before between lectures when a tech was replacing one. I might add in my defence that I an only in uni at the moment so I have never actually used or serviced a copier.

I had no idea . . . wow. Makes you think. If it wasn't a big enough security breach before, it certainly is now!

Guess I better send a link to my old friend (lets call her "Linda" ;) she knows who she is :wave) and let her know that scan of her drunken derriere might still be out there somewhere . . . roflmao

Honestly, if anyone thought about it, it's really common sense since copiers would have to have a hard drive to do the things they do now. We know that camera cards save data.

Of course, even though it's common sense, I never thought about it. It'll be under duress that I ever use one again for anything that is very personal.

The problem with these reports is that the bad guys probably didn't really think about it either.....until now.

Isn't it interesting though that this story comes out right around the time a device is launched to prevent the storage of images?

:confused What device and who or what is preventing the storage of what images?

I haven't heard about this story.

Look towards the end of the video, or the bottom of this article on the same subject: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/04/19/eveningnews/main6412439.shtml
Okay, maybe this is not new but it is good advertising.

That's true, I hadn't looked at it that way.

But $500 for an option to erase a hard drive???

Seems you should be able to buy a new hard drive for a lot less and pitch the old one.

No, the $500 is for a device that erases the stored image after each operation. Therefore there is never a record of the scanned documents after the copier has finished with the document.

    Lol - a fellow cynic! I found that fact interesting as well . . . :-D
