    Hi
I am removing SSD win 7 and installing new SSD win 10, then installing firefox. In preparation I need to save to a location I can access the firefox profile, I do so and fail, says path too long. I try for a folder at root level called f, still fails, I try shortening name of the profile folder to 1, paste to its own location as a test AND IT FAILS, yes it FAILED,. !!!! now how can a folder with its own name shortened to 1 char fail to paste to its existing location, saying path too long !

I dont stand a cat in hells chance of getting this into my new SSD do I ?

Thus years of bookmarks etc are all going to be lost. I am going to have to spend days noting addresses to all the bookmarks, revisiting websites and redoing all bookmarks, Mozilla have caused this.

What else will I lose ?

    Whats the fix ?

Maybe save your firefox profile folder to a USB or SD card instead - and then copy over to your new SSD?

Export the bookmarks to a file.
Then import the file to the new Firefox.

I regularly export my bookmarks and archive on a USB stick so if something happens to the browser, I don't lose much.

    Hi.
    I am Firefox 102.0.1 according to 'help>about>
I google how to back up and the steps dont follow with what I can see or do at all.

You tube it, chap 1 year ago version 3, has export import option.

How become my firefox is v 102 in 1 year ?

his has click on bookmarks tab and choose organise bookmarks then select import export.

I dont even see what he sees, that organise is not there. ni import export is there.
    another site says...
show Bookmarks, it then says click import export above right panel, I see absolutely no import export there any where above the right hand (large) pane.

why is it the most oft used things dont have an easy fix ?

I try again and another article says click on three lines top right select bookmarks then organise then see library then see import export. NOW THAT WORKS !

wish they didnt keep shifting things around !

what about the plugins made for firefox, how do those get saved and used, I have a few in use ?
    Cheers

    DBenz,

I think you want to save a lot more than just your bookmarks! Do you currently use extensions? Have you customized various options in some of your extensions? What about your Home page? Font sizes? Cookies (allowing some, blocking others)? Search engines? Different Profiles setups?

So... the best (meaning easiest and most comprehensive) way to ensure that you can install Firefox in your new computer and have it exactly the way it was - in every way - and in just minutes - is to:

    1. Open up your Windows Explorer in your present computer
    2. Navigate to "C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
    3. Copy the "Profiles" folder in its entirety to a USB or SD card.

After setting up Firefox in your new computer, Firefox will automatically create a new "Profiles" folder in the same folder location in the new computer. Simply replace that with the USB copy you made. That's it. Now, when you open up Firefox again, it will be exactly the way you had it in your old computer. Easy, eh?

Hi, I have done that, having seen what brief mention was made of this, then the bookmark exports was suggested twice, so I have done the right thing then.
So I will follow your reinstall method as well. Good to know everything I have , plugins etc all get brought in.

    Cheers
