I have some very handy bootable tools on floppy disks. Can I build an ISO image from a bootable floppy and burn it to CD? Will it boot and work like it should?

    Thanks.

There are instructions over at http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootablecd for creating a CD image from floppy. It boots to an A:> drive but the files you add are on R:> drive. I was playing around with this for someone on the forum who needed a bootable CD for a BIOS flash. Unfortunately, upon boot the CD is unable to create the R: drive in PC's with SATA CDROMs so your programs would be unavailable.

I found that by modifying the way you use it you can create a bootable CD that looks/works much like a floppy but of course if your program wants to write to the CD/floppy it can't because it is really a CD.

    I''ll put a link here http://www.mediafire.com/file/tzommyjjznh/Modbootcd.rar
Copy your floppy to a folder on your HD. Unzip the Modbootcd. Open the Modbootcd Floppy folder and compare its files with the folder from your floppy. Drag all the files in your floppy folder that don't exist in the Modbootcd floppy into the folder.

Now you'll want to read your floppy's config.sys and autoexec.bat to see if there is anything important in them. And edit the Modbootcd files to match anything you think you'll need. Specifically if your Autoexec.bat starts a program or tool upon boot up you'll want to make sure that is in the new autoexec.bat.

Then just go back to the main Modbootcd folder and click Build-ISO.cmd. The iso is created in that folder and can be burned and tested.

I don't know what the maximum size of the CD can be but I believe it between 1.44 and 2.0 mb. Maybe it is less limited but I would try it with just one floppy's worth of data first, until you know it will do what you want.

Off Topic: None of the controls for replying to posts works for me [Change font, insert web link, quote etc.] When I click on any of the icons I get no response? Any idea what is wrong? I put bold in by typing the tags.

Try clearing your cache and restarting the browser.

Thank you! Yes, I finally got around to figuring out that it only happened in FF. I have certain cookies marked as safe in CCleaner so I had to go in there and delete the MG cookies in case it was one of those causing the problem. Deleting cookies and cache fixed things up. :)

That happens now and then with vBulletin and Firefox. Not sure why but I know from experience it's very frustrating. Clearing the cache usually set's it straight.

Thanks for all the info! More than enough to accomplish what I'm setting out to do, so thanks again all!
