copying hard drive

I just installed a new hard drive in my computer. I put Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit on the new drive. I got everything working and then installed my old hard drive with Windows XP. They are both SATA. When I try to move my music and stuff from the old drive to the new one I get the message that I do not have permission to access them. Have tried to set it to sharing and everything. Have tried to use unstoppable copier and it just skips the files. Can anyone help? Thanks.

 

If you are running Vista, this is what you want to do.
1) Find the file you want to copy. Right click on it and select properties
2) Click on the security tab and click advanced
3) In the Advanced Security Settings window, click on the Owner tab
4) Click Edit located towards the bottom
5) click "Other users or groups".
6) In the "Enter the object name to select" box, type "every" and click the Check Names button.
"Everyone" should appear and should be underlined. Click OK.
7) Make sure the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" is selected and then press "OK"
8) It may come up with something saying you do not have permission to view permissions in this folder. If you press OK you will replace all permissions in those folders. If it happens, click OK/Yes.
9) When the process is finished, you will probably have to exit all windows and re-open the folders properties window by right clicking on the folder and clicking properties.
10) Make sure you are still on the Security tab. Click "Edit".
11) Under group or user names, click Add. Add "Everyone" like you did before and click OK.
12) Select "Everyone" and click the box to the right of Full Control under Allow. Click OK.

After it is done changing permissions, you should have full control over the files in that folder. Easy enough right? :banghead
