A friend of mine, much more computer-savi than I, asked me for my 10 gig flash drive. I trust him, so I didn't question as to why he needed my biggest one specifically.

The next day, I come in early to my computer class. I made a beeline to the lab. Then, I saw my friend. From my distance, I could see the windows "file transfer" window, and it finished as I got closer. He was in the Adobe Flash folder, and I fear that he's trying to take a copy of the Adobe Flash CS5, to take home to put on his own PC.

First of all, what I'd like to know is: Is it possible to copy the file? It's on the hard drive of the computer itself, and is easily accessible to any student who needs to use it, especially in my Survey of Advanced Computer Applications class. There was a teacher behind him, but I doubt that she had any idea what the file transfer window is, let alone what it would be doing up. She wasn't a computer teacher, she was just there with her study hall class.

Next, I want to know, would the school know that it had happened? If he can successfully pull it off, I want to know if the school knows. I would be willing to let him go, since this is his first time, so long as I go onto his computer to make sure that the program is completely erased... I mean, he is my friend after all. He knows that when I'm serious about something, that it's not to be taken lightly. He knows that I will call whoever necessary to prevent him from doing it again. I hope you understand...

He has access to the whole Adobe Creative Suite 5, they're just on separate computers (the computers only have enough memory for 1 at a time).

Yes, he can copy it. However, It's highly unlikely he'll get use of it. There's activation and registry issues and maybe even necessary files/dlls/drivers in other locations.

Alright, thanks. I'll see what I find on his PC. If he did copy it, I still want to be safe and make sure it's not there. Thanks!

I don't see what your friend could do as far as copying to install a program. The only way that would work is if the school had the installation program available for him to copy (which it wouldn't).

The school will not know what he is trying to do/(copy).

I wouldn't worry about it. He was probably trying to copy something but most likely it didn't work the way he thought it would.

You lent your friend a thumb drive--a nice thing to do. Whatever he did with it isn't your problem. Get your drive back when he is done and all is good. :)
