I suppose this is a hardware question? I have a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop and it is working fine. I am in the middle of trying to explain a problem I am having with iTunes on another forum.....when I try to copy an image of my screen.......I am attempting to first copy the image (via instructions from Windows Help) by holding down alt and pressing print scrn (insert key).....I then was going to create a bmp via the Paint app. However when I hit alt-insert nothing happens....when I go to Paint there is no image to paste?

Any geeks out there to help me?
    Thanks
    Peter

Here is a thread explaining how to take screenshots.

Insert and Prntscrn are two different keys.

The way I do it is just hit PrintScreen key then open Paint, right-click the mouse and select Paste. You can crop the image in Paint. You probably want to save as a Jpg or Png to keep the size down--BMPs are large.

(Hitting Alt+PrintScreen should capture just the active window) then open Paint and Paste.

    Thanks for the reply Sachs2.

When I look at my keyboard, the insert key has Insert but then in small print at the bottom of the key has in small blue print Prnt Scrn

But like I said hitting the Alt-Insert does not copy......

Maybe I need to check Dell's site....

Try holding the FN key when you hit the insert key. That should change the function to print screen.

just some additional info, if you're interested. i've always used IrfanView (completely clean freeware) as it will let me save in a multitude of formats & edit options are way better than Paint...although i usually use my graphics program to do any fancy editing.

ignore if you don't need/want it.

Cake, I went to the website provided and downloaded the following file to my desktop:

    iview425_setup.exe

But when I try to run it, it tells me that it is not a valid Win32 application?

no clue what the problem is. it could have downloaded corrupt, though. try re-downloading from one of the other mirrors (sites). the file size should be 1.29mb. i used the second link to download from (i avoid cnet & tucows, but that's a personal choice).
