The problem I have is that I can be typing something and then all of a sudden what I'm typing isn't being shown on the screen. Underneath my keyboard there is a button, which if I press it will start to show what I'm typing on the screen. This is happening every couple of minutes and of course is driving me up the wall. Can anyone suggest a solution please. Thanks.

Easiest solution - not to sound flippant - use a wired keyboard.

Is the cordless keyboard USB or bluetooth?

I believe it's bluetooth. If it was USB wouldn't it have a wire connecting it to the PC?

Not necessarily - I use a wireless USB mouse.

Might be helpful to state your keyboard brand and model. Also, I am assuming Win 10?

As an aside, I think Earthling was just responding to your post #3, giving you an example of gadgets that are wireless but not bluetooth.

It is a USB keyboard and part of a keyboard and mouse combo (HP518URF2+). The USB port could be going to sleep.

System requirements: Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP

This tells me it is very old and could also be suffering hardware failure. It happens. If it loses sync between the mouse and receiver, perhaps the receiver is going bad.
Do you have a connect button on the receiver? (My USB mouse, part of a mouse and keyboard Logitech combo which is older than yours has one.)

Thank you for that. I haven't downloaded the manual for the keyboard but at least you've given me that option. The reason I haven't downloaded the manual is that the link provided earlier by Earthling seems to have done the trick. The link showed how to reset the keyboard by pressing the button on the underside of the keyboard (which I had been doing) but also by pressing the button on the receiver (which, stupidly, I hadn't been doing!) Once I followed those instructions it seems to have solved the problem. So thank you to yourself and Earthling and anyone else who responded. It seems that my problem is now resolved.

Glad you have it working. Write instructions so you don't forget to press the Connect button on the receiver.
